Unseen Limousine
When a limousine is involved in an accident it always makes the news, even if no one is seriously hurt, a pedestrian hit by a limousine is more likely to be reported than a pedestrian hit by an ordinary car. Is this because limousines are being monitored all the time for the slightest indiscretion because of their size and their often after-manufacture modifications?
For example, in Orland, two people are in hospital when they were hit by a limousine in downtown. The accident occurred around 1 am on a Monday morning and a witness who saw the accident believes that the chauffeur was simply caught by surprise. The chauffeur may have been changing lanes and didn’t see the two people crossing the road because it was dark, and by the time he did, they had been hit.
When he saw the two people on the road, the chauffeur swerved and ran over a hedge and into a nearby parking lot by the road. It is not clear whether the chauffeur will face charges, as one person is in a critical condition, and other details about the night art still unclear. What is known though is that the two victims were not crossing at a crosswalk when they were hit by the limousine.
This leaves questions open like what were they doing wandering around the streets at one o’clock in the morning? Did they not see the limousine because they weren’t looking as they assumed the road would be safe to cross at that early hour without them having to check for cars?
A Lincoln Town Car limousine is not a small vehicle and it would have been easy to see and easy to hear on the roads at one o’clock in the morning. So did the people crossing the road illegally just assume that the chauffeur would stop or go around them because chauffeurs are reputed to be such good drivers? Or were they simply not thinking about the consequences of their late night shenanigans?
